Dr. A. M. Ramesh

Dr. A. M. Ramesh is the Program Head, YUGA (Youth for Understanding of Geo-Sciences and Action) at Prayoga. He is a seasoned academic and science communicator with over 30 years of experience in aquatic sciences, environmental management, remote sensing, and science education. He holds advanced degrees in Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc., M.F.Sc., Ph.D.) from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, along with a Bachelor’s in Journalism and specialized training in International Environmental Law (UNITAR, Geneva), Fisheries Management (Wageningen University, The Netherlands), and Ocean Governance (Dalhousie University, Canada).

His career spans research, consultancy, and leadership, including serving as Senior Scientific Officer and later Chief Executive Officer of the Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA), where he organized 50+ conferences, 200+ training programs, and 300+ webinars. Under his leadership, KSTA received the National Award for Outstanding Contributions to Science Communication (2022) from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Dr. Ramesh’s research interests include ecological monitoring, aquatic pollution, and science promotion. A prolific science communicator in Kannada, he has contributed extensively through Vijnana Loka and Kutuhali. Outside of work, he enjoys reading, writing, and following cricket and football.
